Blog Post #5 - Final Blog Post

I think that the Design Thinking process is one I will carry with me past college. While at times it was challenging, I think it is one of the most useful things I have learned in my college career. While it made me very uncomfortable at times because it challenged me to be vulnerable, I am more comfortable speaking up in a group setting and challenging others. This was hard for me before this class, but I saw myself improving a lot throughout the course.

I always considered myself a creative person. However, I struggled with applying my creative skills to my business classes. I consider myself a creative person in the art world, as I like to create art. However, I've constantly been questioning how my creative skills translate over to the marketing world. I feel like this class really showed me how that was possible. I was able to put my artistic skills to use when I helped design the website, but I was also able to use my creativity in other ways. Especially when it came to creating our persona, Anne. I was able to get into the psychology of our persona and how she interacts with her environment.

Overall, the part of the course that was most enjoyable for me was getting to work with my team. I can say with confidence that I have had some pretty terrible group projects in the Business School before. I have oftentimes been the sole person doing anything for a project. I'm happy to say that this was not at all the case with this group. I genuinely enjoyed working with them, and they always had great ideas. My team was very communicative. The only hard part about working with my team was coordinating schedules. The phase I enjoyed the most was prototyping because I was able to see how all the work we had been doing up to that point came together into a finished product. I also really liked the feedback day we had with another group. I think they gave us really constructive feedback that we hadn't considered before.

One thing I wish had been different about the course is that there was more time in between projects. It sometimes felt like we finished one assignment and immediately started the next. But I know that because the class is only a semester-long course, that is how the timeline must be. I did like that the class was project-based. Although I felt a bit rushed for time, I would've felt even more rushed for time if I also had to be tested on the material. I think the projects allowed me to apply what I was learning more than a test would have.

The class was truly an enjoyable experience for me. Design Thinking is bound to come up as I move on from college, and even if it doesn't, I know I will use it in my personal life.
